Have you ever found yourself so disgusted by how you feel you tell yourself that you will start n a new health and wellness program the next week? And then you find yourself two months later saying next week you will start, and then so on and so on. Making huge life changes can really be tough. The best place to start according to some is right where you are right now. If you start right away the chances are that you may end up sticking with it and actually doing it. If you keep putting it off, it will probably end up that you just keep putting it off again.

So when do you plan on starting? -Tomorrow, next week, never. The choice is yours, hang in there, get motivated and get going.

We have all heard the saying that you are what you eat. Before the advent of modern medicine doctors of old treated their patients with herbs and food to try and heal them. They could tell many times just by their symptoms or how they looked that they needed certain things to make them better. Take scurvy for example. For sailors it used to kill and sicken tons of them on long voyages. It turns out that some vitamin C, found in citrus for example, could keep this illness away almost altogether. But before they knew this people used to suffer and die from it on a regular basis.

Have you also ever been given a cream or a rub from your doctor and told to apply it ever so often in small amounts to help an internal problem. The skin obviously absorbs what comes in contact with it very easily. The things that we eat, breathe or put on us can certainly have quite a bit to do with our overall health whether we know it or not. So the next time you are wanting to put something down your mouth or on your skin even, you may want to consider what it really is that you are using.

Well, it’s almost that time of year again. It is time to make tons of promises to yourself. But will you keep any of them? What can be just as unhealthy as not eating properly and exercising is not keeping your word to yourself and possibly others around you. It can end up being a vicious cycle, one that can be really difficult to break.

If you make some resolutions, you may want to really think them through. Then it may be wise to come up with a sensible plan to help you to keep your goals. Also, it may be wise to consider not making too many of these promises all at once. You could end up overwhelming yourself in the process.

Can you imagine eating lots of boxes of organic mac-and-cheese, with some organic candy bars, followed by tons of organic chips? This ends up happening to some people. They think that, hey it is organic, so then I must be okay. You may want to be careful here. Organic or not, usually balance is better. Eating more of a balanced diet as opposed to eating lots of processed or fried foods -organic or not- can be healthier on the body.

Let’s say you need to watch your sugar intake. So you are headed out to eat with some friends and think you need to be careful to not eat too much sugar while you are out. You start off well by beginning with some water to drink. Sodas and tea can contain tons of sugar. If you are not into the fake sweeteners, then water may be a great choice. Then you think you will order a nice Asian chicken salad with a Teriyaki dressing to show you are really trying to do what is right by your health. Before ordering it though, it might have been wise to have asked about the sugar content of your meal. Sure, it seems healthy eating a salad, and maybe overall it is not bad. But some salads can contain tons of sugar. The sweet type dressing will more than likely have lots of sugar. Then there might be sugar hidden inside the chicken, the breading, or other things that are in the salad. Before you know it you may end up with more sugar in your meal than you realize and feel you should eat. There can actually be enough sugar that you could have had a few desserts, equaling the sugar in your salad. So when you eat out, if you need to, ask questions about what is in your food.

If you just love eating out or seem forced to often due to your job or some other circumstances, then it can be quite daunting finding healthy meals. Sure something make look healthier on a menu, say for example a chicken salad of some sort, but what may be hidden inside the salad may not end up being all that healthy for you. For example sometimes chickens can be loaded with sugar and salt, during the seasoning process to make it taste a certain way. The dressing also may contain lots of oils and sugars as well.

Then there can be the issue of just wanting to choose a healthy meal when there seem to be so many selections of things that are not was healthy. It seems that all you can do sometimes if just try and make the healthiest decision possible.

So try if you can to scout out the healthiest places to eat possible nearest to where you are. If you do then need to eat out then be prepared to visit a place such as these. In the end try your best and make adjustments along the way if you feel you need to.

Well it is a new year, 2010. And by now millions of people around the world have made some sort of New Year’s resolution. It is likely that a large percentage of these resolutions never come to pass. Why is it that they never come to pass though? Well, usually people tend to either make too many of them or they end up struggling with one because they made it too difficult to manage.

So how can you be successful in what you venture out to do this year? For one, setting more realistic goals may help. Also you can have some be short term and some long term. By having more short term goals, you may end up feeling a great sense of accomplishment when you do finally complete one. This sense of completion then can help to drive you towards completing other goals whether long term or short term. You can either choose to set yourself up for success or set yourself up for disappointment. So for this year, the choice is yours, what will you do or how will you handle things. Remember to work hard and keep on trucking until you complete your goals.

So how did everyone do during the Thanksgiving holidays? Did you overeat? Did you eat too many sweets? It seems that lots of people overdo it when it comes to eating too much during this time of year. It can be really tough on those who were trying to lose weight. And to make matters worse, the Christmas season is upon us. There may be for many people work parties, early non-immediate family get togethers, a big Christmas meal day or even New Years Eve plans.

So what is one to do? Well you could always ask the people hosting the parties if you can bring some healthier food options or maybe they could serve some healthier options. This may be tough to do at a big event. So the next thing to consider doing is to just not eat the foods that are served. Though difficult, it can be done and may be one of your only options. It is important for some not to go through the holidays stuffed and to have over eaten.

If you want to lose weight and stay in shape, try to keep to your fitness program and be careful what goes in your mouth.

So what are you eating for Thanksgiving? Are you having the traditional turkey or the tofu version the to-furkey? No matter what your choice may or may not be, if you want to remain healthy and fit during the holidays you may just have to say no to certain foods. The holiday season can be filled with tons of great food and goodies. Some people may stay up all night baking pies and cakes. Others may order in more food than a small army could eat.

So what is one to do? Do you lock yourself up in your closet with some celery sticks and wait the Holiday out? Well for some they may have to get close to that, others may be able to go and enjoy, just in moderation. Most of us know by now how our bodies will react when we eat too much food, or sweets, etc.

The decision is really up to you on how you handle things. You more than likely know what is right or wrong. A tip for some may end up being as simple as not overeating and not eating too many sweets. No matter what, try and have fun and keep the roadways safe.

Back in the olden days, for lots of physicians they could look at you, inside your mouth or maybe even just in you eyes and tell if there might be something wrong with you and your health. Doctors even today say that our bodies can show our true health, maybe by the color in our eyes, maybe by our skin color, and so on. For each physician it can be different.

So what does your body say about your health. Most of us tend to know a little about our own health. We know whether or not we are eating properly. We also know when we’re exercising enough. Some of us are stressed out and that has been said to affect our health in a negative way. Looking in the mirror, how healthy do you think you are?

For lots of Americans, they are trying to do something about their health. They try and eat healthier and they workout as often as possible. Have you ever seen someone fast walking during their lunch hour, keeping track of the steps they take by using their digital pedometer? Or maybe you see that coworker making better food choices than others. Perhaps you’ve taken note of a friend ordering healthier fare when you go out to eat.

So what does your overall appearance say about your health?

Can you exercise too much? Well, like most things too much of a good thing can end up being a really bad thing. So how can you tell when your fitness program is too much? The first thing you may consider is to check with a doctor. Ask them what they think about your program, and if you see them often enough, they may be able to tell how your program affects you through a basic exam.

You can also consider getting with a personal trainer. You could ask them to design you a workout plan that will really give you a good workout without pushing you over the edge. A good workout program usually will have within it days of rest. The schedule may be that one week you workout 4 days and the next week 3, then back to 4 and so on. Certainly there are probably many opinions out there.

The reason many people workout is to improve their health. If you want to improve your health then make sure you consider doing so gradually. No matter how much you workout, it can take time to see results. It can be a gradual process. In any case, be safe out there and get help if you feel you need it.

Losing weight for many tends to be an uphill battle. There is a constant barrage of products flooding the market literally weekly. Are the products or diets worth trying? Well, that is really up to the consumer. Weight loss problems can happen or occur for many reasons like thyroid issues, falling off your diet, or maybe just eating the wrong foods. It is never the same for every person which is why a good dietician or doctor may be able to help you.

Some tips could be to really set some limits on how often you eat out or snack. You could always try to stop overeating if that’s an issue. You also may want to consider seeking professional help.

Losing weight can be an emotional battle, so please, if you’re out there and you know someone struggling with this issue, be supportive and do not judge them. Many people tend to look at overweight people and say that they overeat. It just is not true in many cases and even if they do, they need your support more than anything!

So keep some of this in mind if you are dealing with your weight or know someone who is. No matter what, if you’re trying to lose weight, you may want to consider building a support system of friends and family around you to help.

The benefits of weight loss are obvious. You can want to lose weight to feel great, look better, have better health, or a large number of other reasons. The problem a lot of times is that people tend to fall away from their diets quite a bit. There ware ways though that you can help to keep this from happening.

One way is to consider giving while you lose weight. For quite a few people out there they end up overweight because they either overeat or simply just eat the wrong foods. To help to overcome this, maybe try setting a grocery budget based on eating a healthy diet. Use the rest of the money that you would have dumped on bad foods or excessive foods to give to local food banks. What a great way to help others who barely have the option to put a normal meal on the table with their food. This would certainly drive me to stay on budget and make me think twice before I overeat when others out there are in need of just the basics.

So you say that you have changed your diet! Great, to me the best way to change your overall health and wellness is by changing your lifestyle when it comes to food. Fad diets just do not work. It’s best to come up with an eating plan that you can live with and stick to it. If you don’t, one slip up can be all it takes to knock you back off your diet again.

But now what? Now is the time to try to workout. One way to start is by simply going for walks and stretching. If you are out of shape, never over do it, you could end up hurting yourself. Then once you have a good rhythm as far as those two items are concerned, you can step it up.

Now you want to get serious, get some good running shoes, a pedometer and a water bottle and up your workout levels. You may want to consider running or jogging some during your time. You may even consider some light weights.

The key is don’t stop, don’t give up and keep on going. If you eat healthy and stay on top of your workouts, you will keep that weight off and steadily lose more. Be careful, weigh your options, do some research, check with your doctor and have fun!

OK, have any of you ever heard of raw foodies? There are different camps within this community, but basically they are vegans and they only eat raw uncooked foods. I have tried this actually and found it in a way to be quite refreshing. There is a problem though! Not all foods are meant to be eaten raw.

It’s funny that some of them claim that we should eat like the deer do. Last time I looked in the mirror I was not a deer. Also when was the last time you saw a deer buy supplements off the internet or dehydrate their last meal? Can you remember the last time you saw a deer talk on a cell phone, wear clothes and carry a pedometer with them? Give me a break.

Next, and I love this one, let’s say you love popcorn. Well raw foodies would never eat popcorn because, well you remember, a deer would never cook his corn. So they come up with a raw foody popcorn. That’s right; basically what you get is raw cauliflower and some seed and nut butters thrown into some mix that they say taste like butter. HUH! It sounds to me like they’re eating raw cauliflower with a seed butter mix on top!

There are tons of holes in many lifestyles. I love my food raw, salads, raw veggies dipped in things, green smoothies, and so on. But the next time someone tells me having a ton of raw nuts and seeds for breakfast is better than a truly free range grass and bug eating chicken egg- well I would love to understand how and why. The key here is, once again, it is your health, do some research, be informed. Enjoy the foods you eat, the key is just understanding exactly what you are eating.

It is hard to change old habits. I have eaten basically a very unhealthy diet my entire life thinking very little that what goes into my body could be making me sick or harming me in some long term manner. Yet all around us people are gaining more and more weight, taking more drugs and spending more time in fast food drive thru lines. So what will it take to get us to eat healthier?

For some people unfortunately it is a disease or illness that causes them to rethink how they eat. For me I have no desire to get ill, nor should I be waiting to do something about my health until it seems too late. Why not now, why not try and make a difference now!

If you take into consideration people are getting sicker, getting much heavier and needing lots of drugs to stay literally alive, you have to remember statistically this could be you very soon.

You need to make a change now, I know I sure do. Look around you and see if there is someone near to you that you can take this journey with. It is much easier to have a partner or loved one along for the ride. The accountability is needed; believe me making changes to your health can be hard.

So get a partner and get started. Remember, baby steps tend to be easier. Cut a few bad foods out each week and go from there. You should start to see a change almost immediately.
